First UMC Sealy is taking the first small steps out of quarantine. With Governor Abbott’s and our County Judge's approval, our sanctuary is open for worship on Sunday mornings, with limitations. If you'd like to come inside the sanctuary, we ask that you you keep several feet away from any other worshipers and practice safe social distancing.
  1. We will continue our Facebook Live worship at 10 am for those who prefer to worship from a distance.
  2. On May 31 ... If things continue to remain safe and our visitors remain healthy ... we will hold an 8 am service again! It will not be broadcast.
  3. Maximum attendance in our sanctuary is limited to 40 individuals at this time.
  4. Social distancing is still mandated by the Governor and by medical leaders. So those who join us onsite are asked to wash their hands, use hand sanitizer, maintain six feet distances from each other. Family groups are allowed to sit together, but please maintain distances between groups. The six feet distance means that we ask you to keep empty pews between you and people sitting directly in front or behind you. Please be especially aware of distances as you enter and depart from worship. Masks are appropriate but not required.
  5. There will be no choir. No gathered children’s time. A shorter sermon. An offering will be received, but the offering plates will not be passed.
  6. We strongly encourage the at-risk population to watch or participate remotely. The at-risk population is defined as “those who are 65 or older, especially those with chronic lung disease; moderate to severe asthma; chronic heart disease; severe obesity; diabetes; chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis; liver disease; or weakened immune system.”

First UMC Sealy is taking the first small steps out of quarantine. With Governor Abbott’s and our County Judge's announcement of reopening portions of our society, we have decided to open our sanctuary for worship on Sunday mornings, with limitations. If you'd like to come inside the sanctuary, we ask that you you keep several feet away from any other worshipers and practice safe social distancing.

Please be especially aware of distances as you enter and depart from worship. Masks are appropriate but not required.
  3. The format for worship will be the same one we have been using for our Livestream worship for at least the next several weeks. No choir. No gathered children’s time. A shorter sermon. An offering will be received, but the offering plates will not be passed.
  4. We strongly encourage the at-risk population to watch or participate remotely. New, online giving

New and Easy Ways to Give!!
Effective immediately, we have three new ways to give to First United Methodist Church Sealy. These options are provided by Vanco, a company that Methodist churches nationwide have done business with for many years.

While things may seem quiet, our staff is paddling hard underwater to keep things running and to bring you content and connection. We want to be ready to throw open the doors as soon as the all clear is given.

It is important that we support this effort. Bills are still due, lights need to stay on, things will still break. I know there is uncertainty, so it takes a little bit by those who can to keep our church running. Please prayerfully consider how you can help.

  1. You can click this link to take you directly to our online giving page. The page is secure and easy to use. Using this link, you can also set up your giving to repeat ... or be a one-time gift. You can use a credit card, debit card, savings account or checking account for your gift. Also, you can designate your gift to go to the General Fund or our Capital Campaign.
  2. You can download the GivePlus Moblie App to your Apple or Android device, and give through your mobile device. Using the GivePlus Moblie App (look for Give+ in your app store), you’ll be able to give via credit card, debit card, savings account or checking account. You can designate your gift to go to the General Fund or our Capital Campaign.
  3. You can give via text message to 833-623-0517. Text messaging defaults to the General Fund and will only use a credit card. This option is easy to do ... simply enter the above phone number, then, in the message part, enter the dollar amount you'd like to give. DO NOT put the dollar sign in front of the amount. Simply enter the dollars (no cents) and it will process quickly. When your donation is complete, you will receive a confirmation text message.
  4. Or, you can stay old-school and end checks by mail to 200 Atchison, Sealy, Texas 77474.

Your ongoing faithfulness and generosity allows our ministries to continue to serve the community and you.

An Invitation to a Devotional Trip

4/21/2020

You're invited to a special devotional trip through the Holy Land! Starting tomorrow we'll begin posting daily devotions based Pastor Mike's 2015 trip to Israel and Egypt. (Click here for Brother Mike's Daily Devotions)

From Brother Mike:
"This was a life-changing trip for me and something that I had been wanting to do for years. Fortunately for me, it also fell less than a month after my oldest son, James McKinley, graduated from college. I asked James to go with me as my graduation gift to him and he agreed. After we returned home I began working on a document that would help me process all that I had seen and experienced in Israel and Egypt. I wrote about each site that we visited and included appropriate Scripture references and a hymn. These devotions will be derived from that notebook.

I hope you will take this trip with me to The Holy Land: the land of Abraham, Ruth, David, Mary, and Peter. A land of hope and faith, belief and betrayal, love and hate. I think the blessing of traveling in The Holy Land is best described by Cleopas and his friend in Luke 24, verse 32: 'Were not our hearts greatly moved and burning within us while the Risen Christ was talking with us on the road and as he opened and explained to us the sense of the Scriptures?' (altered from the Amplified Bible)

I pray that as you travel in the Holy Land through the pages of these devotions and see the places you have read about in the Bible, your heart will be strangely warmed and you will be awed and humbled by what God has done for you through your Savior, Jesus Christ."

And if you ask him, Jesus will come and walk with you through this adventure and every other adventure of your life.
Thanks be to God!
